Time to Travel for a Vacation!
Is it time to travel for a vacation? According to researchers, looking ahead to your next vacation may benefit your psychological state. Above all, it’s nice to dream about your next trip. In the long term, after the COVID-19 pandemic, you can again travel with relative ease to wherever you like. And that will be travel bucket list trips for many. In the short term, there are many travel options available and people are travelling. Trips booked within 14 days of departure are on the rise. And whether you’re looking to travel within 2 weeks or later in the year, most airlines are offering flexible bookings and waiving change fees through 2020. And Canadian tour operators, including Air Canada Vacations, have re-started their vacation travel programs.
Travel within Canada
As COVID-19 numbers decline in Canada, many provinces are welcoming tourists from other provinces. Domestic travellers can move freely to and from Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. Travellers to Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Yukon, and Northwest Territories must self-isolate for 14 days. However, most Canadians are not presently allowed entry into Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and P.E.I. (unless they are Atlantic Canada residents). In addition, travel to Nunavut is banned except for NWT residents.
Travel from Canada to the U.S
The Canada/U.S. border is closed to all non-essential travel. In other words, the reason for travel must be “non-optional” or “non-discretionary.” There is very limited business travel but for “essential” travel only. Until the border opens again, and COVID-19 is under control in the U.S., regular travel to the U.S. is off the table.
Travel to International Destinations
Europe now allows Canadians to visit. And who wouldn’t love a European vacation right about now? Research and advanced information is key for travel as entry requirements and protocols vary by country. Most international destinations have some sort of COVID-19 warning in place. Many European countries require a negative COVID-19 test for entry. And England is enforcing a 14-day quarantine for arriving travellers. However, a trip to Greece, Portugal, Germany, Italy, and other popular countries is entirely possible.
Popular Caribbean beach destinations require COVID-19 screening to enter. For the Dominican Republic, passengers are required to fill out and submit a Traveller’s Health Affidavit to declare they have not felt any COVID-19-related symptoms in the last 72 hours. Passengers will also have their temperature checked as they disembark the plane. Jamaica requires that all travellers obtain a Travel Authorization prior to departure and adhere to safety protocols while in Jamaica. A Public Health Officer will conduct a health screening & risk assessment upon arrival.
Time to Plan Your Winter Vacation
Air Canada Vacations has just announced its annual Winter Early Bird Sale. In addition to savings of up to $400, the vacation sale offers reduced deposits and a comprehensive travel protection plan. Travel protection includes seat selection, a price drop guarantee, StormGuard, and fee waiver. And, the program offers travellers flexibility with the ability to change departure date, destination, hotel, or transfer bookings up to 7 days prior to departure. (Bookings can even be canceled with a full refund up to 25 days prior departure).
Travel is different now. Comprehensive safety measures are now in place for the foreseeable future. At airports, there is passenger screening, mandatory use of facemasks, and social distancing measures where possible. Comprehensive safety measures include temperature checks, mask use during travel, online check-in, COVID-19 testing, and extensive airplane sanitization. Planes are cleaner than they have ever been.
